Amplifying Impact Through Collaboration: City Year Dallas and United to Learn

Please enjoy this spotlight on a special U2L Collaborator: City Year Dallas.

City Year Dallas is an AmeriCorps program that recruits, coaches, and trains idealistic young leaders ages 18-25 to provide whole school and individualized interventions in academics, attendance, and social-emotional support for students in 6 schools across South and West Dallas. Last school year City Year Dallas and United to Learn collaborated at four Dallas ISD elementary schools: John Neely Bryan, Harrell Budd, Elisha M. Pease, and William B. Miller with a shared goal of accelerating student achievement.

During U2L’s Community Campus Day events, City Year Dallas Corps Members lent a helping hand at three Dallas ISD campuses.

Here’s a look at some 2023 U2L Community Campus Day events where City Year Dallas Corps Members helped create aspirational learning environments alongside engaged community members.

Corps Members serving at Elisha M. Pease Elementary School created a literacy library for small-group, guided reading that will promote literacy achievement.

Corps Members at Harrell Budd Elementary School helped create mindfulness corners, and calming nooks where students can go and utilize tools to alleviate stress and redirect focus.

United to Learn volunteers and City Year Dallas Corps Members supported Chapel Hill Prep by creating a spirit store filled with motivational prizes for students that they can earn when they demonstrate good habits such as perseverance, leadership, and empathy. Volunteers also revitalized the outdoor area, building and installing benches.

United to Learn is grateful for this collaboration because it allows both organizations to work together to close opportunity gaps and build an informed community empowered to advocate for ALL students.

As North Texas Giving Day approaches, City Year Dallas and United to Learn are thinking of new ways we can collaborate in the future. We invite you to be part of North Texas Giving Day on September 21, 2023. Your support, whether through donations, spreading awareness, or volunteering, has the power to amplify the positive change organizations are making in the lives of young students in our city.
