As Deputy Chief of Staff, Rachel Chewakin supports United to Learn to advance its mission, brand, and programs by overseeing special projects, executing the organizational strategic plan, ensuring strong internal management systems, and driving team productivity.

Before joining United to Learn, Rachel was the Director of Strategic Initiatives and talent with The Principal Impact Collaborative (PIC) at UNT Dallas. She also led The Principal Fellowship recruitment and selection, internal team hiring, and public relations and communications for PIC, amongst other special projects.

She began her career as a fourth-grade teacher at Uplift Summit International Preparatory in Arlington, Texas.  Realizing the potential to make a wider impact from the systems level, Rachel transitioned from the classroom and served in various roles in the education space in Chicago. She served as the Community Development Director for an education company, as Chief of Staff at The Chicago Public Education Fund, and worked on talent initiatives with Noble Schools and Teach For America.

Rachel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Arizona State University and a Master of Education in Cultural and Educational Policy Studies from Loyola University Chicago. She is a proud alumna of Leadership ISD’s Civic Voices Fellowship and was awarded Fellow of the Year by her peers. She is also an alumna of the Urban Leadership Fellowship in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Outside of work, Rachel enjoys spending time with her husband, Christopher, volunteering at their church, visiting family in the Midwest, and trying new restaurants around their neighborhood in Oak Cliff. She is dedicated to service and is an active member in the Junior League of Dallas where she currently volunteers with the Dallas Zoo and serves as Member at Large on the Research and Development Committee. Previously, she served as the Project Chair for the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum and volunteered with Senior Source.
