Year-End Gathering: Reaffirming Our Purpose

The United to Learn Year-End Gathering celebrated the network’s collective efforts during the 2016-2017 academic school year. In addition to our public elementary school leadership and private institution members, we shared the evening with community guests for an unveiling of United to Learn’s Strategic Plan and a viewing of Paper Tigers, the inspirational documentary that chronicles the turnaround story of Walla Walla High School utilizing a trauma-sensitive teaching approach for students suffering from toxic stress. Paper Tigers powerfully illustrates that a student’s capacity to learn and thrive at school can be shaped by strong adult-student relationships, which are the foundation to social and emotional health programming. Our audience left the evening recommitted to the power of adult-student relationships and the value of supporting strong social and emotional learning environments within the United to Learn footprint.
