The Second Community Campus Day of 2023
In our second Community of Campus Day of 2023, the excitement for our community showed up at eight Dallas ISD elementary schools!
On Saturday, March 4, 2023, we built school spirit stores, applied hallway sensory paths, created classroom reading areas, and enhanced school gardens to promote experiential learning.
Campus Projects
At Chapel Hill Preparatory School and Harry C. Withers Elementary, volunteers from the U2L Teen Fellows, the Greenhill School, and the Lamplighter School helped create learning environments that foster school spirit by setting up physical school spirit stores on campus to reward students by demonstrating good habits such as leadership and empathy.
At Dan D. Rogers Elementary and Preston Hollow Elementary, volunteers from Weaver, the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, and the U2L Teen Board refreshed and enhanced the schools’ existing outdoor gardens. Research has demonstrated that outdoor learning positively affects mental health and academic performance. A special thank you to the Plant Concierge and Farmer Kim from Grow Garden Grow for supporting these garden projects!
At F.P. Caillet Elementary and Jerry R. Junkins Elementary, volunteers from the Episcopal School of Dallas and Arch Insurance applied indoor stencils to the hallway floors that will encourage movement and provide students the opportunity to learn on the go! Hallway sensory paths provide students with structured brain breaks where they can focus their energy outside the classroom.
At John J. Pershing Elementary, high school volunteers created classroom reading areas to promote a culture of reading.
At Everette L. Degolyer Elementary, high school students created book displays that will showcase books and store bags to encourage reading outside of the classroom.
